Anti-Bullying Policy

The NSW Department of Education's Anti-Bullying policy is part of its Student Behaviour Policy, which aims to ensure schools are safe and inclusive environments for everyone. Bullying, including cyberbullying, is not allowed in NSW public schools. Bullying is defined as intentional, repeated behaviour where someone misuses power in a relationship to hurt or threaten another person, which can cause harm. The policy also prohibits behaviours such as intimidation, victimisation, and harassment based on sex, race, religion, disability, or sexual orientation. Each school develops a School Behaviour Support and Management Plan outlining positive behaviour strategies and how the whole school works to prevent and address bullying. Students are supported to follow the Behaviour Code for Students, which includes showing respect, resolving conflict calmly and fairly, and not bullying or discriminating against others. Schools take appropriate action in response to behaviour that impacts safety or learning, ensuring a supportive environment for all members of the school community.

At Woodenbong Central School, we are committed to following the NSW Department of Education’s Anti-Bullying policy to keep our school safe and friendly for everyone. Bullying is any repeated behaviour where a person uses their power to hurt or upset someone else, including bullying online. We believe everyone deserves respect and kindness, and we do not accept bullying or unfair treatment of any kind. Our school works together to help students learn how to treat each other with respect, resolve problems calmly, and speak up if they see or experience bullying. If bullying happens, we take it seriously and act quickly to support those involved and create a positive, safe learning environment for all.

School Frameworks (School Rules) and Policies

Our school follows the NSW Department of Education’s operational policies, which are regularly reviewed and updated to reflect best practices. You can access all current policies through the Department’s Policy Library

We also adhere to the Department’s School Community Charter, which guides all communication within our school community to be collaborative, respectful, and constructive.

In addition, Woodenbong Central School has developed its own frameworks and policies that align with our school values and commitments, providing clear expectations and support for student behaviour and wellbeing.

School Community Charter

At Woodenbong Central School, we are committed to fostering a positive, respectful, and collaborative learning environment for all members of our community. Our commitment is guided by the NSW Department of Education’s School Community Charter.

The Charter outlines the shared responsibilities of students, parents and carers, teachers, and school leaders to work together in supporting student learning and wellbeing. It sets clear expectations for respectful communication, cooperation, and mutual support, ensuring that everyone feels safe, valued, and heard.

By embracing the principles of the School Community Charter, we create a welcoming school culture where:

  • Students are encouraged and supported to do their best.
  • Parents and carers are engaged partners in their child’s education.
  • Teachers provide high-quality learning experiences and positive guidance.
  • School leaders foster an inclusive, supportive environment that respects diversity.

We encourage all members of our school community to uphold the Charter’s values and work collaboratively to ensure Woodenbong Central School is a place where every student can thrive.

School Frameworks and School Rules

At Woodenbong Central School, we are committed to creating a safe, supportive, and respectful learning environment for all students. In addition to following the NSW Department of Education’s operational policies, we have developed our own school frameworks and rules that reflect our values and commitments.

Our school frameworks guide student behaviour and outline clear expectations, including:

  • Showing respect and courtesy to others
  • Following school and classroom rules
  • Striving for personal best in learning
  • Wearing the school uniform with pride
  • Attending school regularly and on time
  • Respecting school property and the property of others
  • Acting safely and responsibly at all times
  • Resolving conflicts respectfully and peacefully
  • Avoiding bullying, discrimination, and bringing prohibited items to school

When behaviour does not meet these expectations, appropriate and fair actions are taken to support students in making positive choices.

These frameworks help us maintain a positive school culture where every student can learn, grow, and succeed.

For more information on student behaviour expectations, you can visit the NSW Department of Education’s Behaviour Code for Students.

Attendance and Absence

Regular school attendance is essential for students to achieve their best educational outcomes and to maximise future career and life opportunities.

In NSW:

Parents and carers are responsible for ensuring their child attends school every day during compulsory school years. All absences must be explained to the school within 7 days.

When can my child be absent?
Sometimes, your child may need to be absent from school for justified reasons, including:

What do I need to do?
Please provide an explanation for your child’s absence to the school within 7 days from the first day of absence. If no explanation is received within this timeframe, the absence will be recorded as unexplained on your child’s attendance record.
