Additional Learning Support
At Woodenbong Central School, we are committed to ensuring every student is ready and able to learn. We provide support for students with disabilities and additional learning needs, enabling them to fully participate in all aspects of school life.
A formal diagnosis is not required for your child to receive support within a mainstream classroom. Support can be provided at any stage throughout a student’s schooling journey.
Support That Fits Your Child's Needs
Some students need extra support to feel confident and succeed at school. At Woodenbong Central School, we work closely with families to create personalised support plans and make adjustments tailored to each child’s needs.
Additional learning support may include:
- Collaboration between teachers, support staff, families, and students (when appropriate)
- Specialist support for students learning English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D)
- Tailored programs for high potential and gifted students to meet their advanced learning needs
- Small group tutoring focused on targeted literacy and numeracy support
- Regular check-ins to review and update support plans
Classroom adjustments can include:
- Accessible learning environments
- Use of assistive technology
- Modified instructional resources
- Extra guidance, simplified content, or alternative lesson focuses
Assessment adjustments may involve:
- Additional time
- Simplified language
- Scheduled breaks during tasks
- Alternative ways to complete tasks (e.g., oral presentations instead of written assignments)
We recognise when a student may need extra help through:
- Teacher observations of changes in learning or behaviour
- Review of assessment results and learning progress
- Concerns or requests raised by parents and carers
Support plans are developed in partnership with parents and carers and are regularly reviewed and updated as needed. If you believe your child may benefit from additional support, please contact us.
